Silk was first discovered quite by accident by a Chinese Princess, and it has been used by the Chinese since 27th century BC. For centuries silk has had a reputation as an incredibly luxurious and sensuous fabric, one associated with wealth and success and very early on became a valuable commodity.
Silk is a natural protein fibre, like human hair, taken from the cocoon of the silkworm. The fibre is extremely strong, making silk one of the strongest fabrics on the market today. Being a natural fibre, Silk breathes and is very absorbent, therefore suitable for all climates - warm in winter and cool in summer. Silk retains its shape, drapes beautifully with the most incredible lustre and shimmer, and is extremely comfortable and luxurious to wear - not only a special occasion garment, but ideal for every day.
Silk is washable, like your hair a bit of care is required. Do not use harsh detergents or alkaline shampoo- yes you can use a good shampoo on your silks. A good conditioner in the rinse water can help with reducing static. Please refer to the Garment Easy Care in the Specifics section for do's and don'ts of washing. Some garments can be drycleaned.
Silk is undoubtedly the most unique fabric, elegant, versatile and the appropriate fabric to use in creating our lingerie range. Feel the difference on your skin as our silk garments glide over your body. Pure heaven.
The various silks used are:
Silk Satin - smooth with a high sheen
Silk Satin Lycra - smooth with 96% silk and 4% lycra - slight stretch
Silk Charmeuse - high-lustre sandwash feel
Silk Georgette - very sheer
Silk Double/Triple Georgette - slightly sheer
Silk Faille - thick smooth low sheen - for outerwear
Silk Heavy Stretch Crepe - thick smooth low sheen with stretch - 95% Silk and 5% lycra - for outerwear
Silk Organza - sheer and crisp
Silk Jersey - knit and silky
Silk lasts for years with a little care and will look just like new. Simply gorgeous.
